Chanhill Stud Farm (now Capricorn Stud) was established in 1997. Created literally out of the wilderness, on a virgin plot of 160 acres perched on a lake, Chanhill Stud Farm was a labour of love for Mr. & Mrs. G.N. Pedder, who spent lavishly to create India's loveliest stud farm. Several broodmares were acquired locally and the farm's first imported stallion was the dual 2000 Guineas winner, TIROL, purchased from Ireland's famed Coolmore Stud. TIROL covered his first mares at Chanhill during the breeding season that commenced in February 1998. However, due to subsequent financial constraints, the farm was not able to offer high quality mares to TIROL. Despite this, TIROL showed his class by producing several classic and semi-classic winners, though probably not as many as he would have had he been offered really well-bred and well-performed mares. The Capricorn Group of Companies took over the ownership and management of Chanhill Stud Farm in August 2002. The Capricorn Group immediately pumped in financial resources:
JUNIPER's first crop, along with the better-bred offspring of TIROL(IRE) are yearlings and will start racing in November 2006, while the first of the ‘got-abroads' will start racing later this year. The Capricorn Group has also leased another stud farm and is in the process of enhancing the area of the main stud farm to make it the largest in the country. Capricorn Stud Farm is a professionally managed farm, with three full time resident veterinarians, three managers, resident farriers, grooms, maintenance crew, and supporting staff, bringing the total strength of the team to about 125 permanent members. |
