.....JUNIPER [USA] Bay 1998 Danzig – Montage, by Alydar JUNIPER [USA] is a Kentucky-bred product of Farfellow Farms, and was entered for sale as a weanling at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, 1998, where he made $ 1,450,000, thus becoming the highest priced Danzig foal of the year and making almost 10 times the advertised fee. The handsome youngster was purchased by Demi O'Byrne for the highly successful part-nership of Michael Tabor/Sir Alex Ferguson/Mrs. John Magnier, also associated with ROCK OF GIBRALTAR! JUNIPER [USA] was sent into training with Aidan O'Brien at the historic Ballydoyle Stables in Tipperary's Golden Vale in Ireland. JUNIPER [USA] was so highly thought of that instead of making his debut in a maiden race in Ireland, he was sent to England first time out for a crack at the 6 fur. Scottish Equitable Gimcrack Stakes, Gr.2 , at York. JUNIPER [USA] ran a grand third in this event – beaten only a neck and a head -- despite running green and being hampered at a crucial stage. He returned to Ireland to win his maiden over 6 fur., which he did in resolute fashion despite having to race on yielding going -- completely unsuitable for his smooth action -- and despite having to overcome the worst-possible outside draw. JUNIPER [USA] was unable to meet his intended engagement in the 6 fur. Middle Park Stakes, Gr.1 , later that season and was put away for the year. In 2001, he was pitched in at the deep end by making his 3-y-o debut in a Pattern Race, even though absent from the track for over 8 months. JUNIPER[USA] ran his best-ever race by running an excellent third in the 6 fur. Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes, Gr.3 , even though once again unfortunate to encounter going that was on the soft side. JUNIPER [USA] was kept in training at 4 years and it says something for his home repu-tation that his only start that year was in the Gr.1 Darley July Cup. At both 3 and 4 he was reportedly plagued with a hoof problem, which no longer exists. During his abbreviated six-race career, JUNIPER [USA] has beaten such useful runners as EASTERN PURPLE (multiple Group and Listed winning sprinter in Ireland and England), LADY OF KILDARE (stakes winner in Ireland), etc. JUNIPER [USA] has an outstanding first crop of some 13 foals of 2004, most of them bred and reared at the Chanhill Stud Farm under ideal conditions. He has some 55 mares in foal, due in 2005. JUNIPER [USA] is a son of the recently-retired stud sensation DANZIG , the North American-based breed-shaper, thrice champion sire in North America, and sire of at least 178 stakes winners worldwide, whose sire sons include:
JUNIPER [USA] is bred on identical lines to champion miler LURE and to Japanese standout, YAMANIN PARADISE , all three being by DANZIG out of ALYDAR mares. This is the same cross as DAYJUR , QUALIFY , BRAHMS , etc. JUNIPER [USA] is half-brother to six winners, including Group 2 winner ANDROS BAY , millionaire Saint Lyphard (sire) and to the dam of Grade 1 performer FAHIM and Irish multiple Group winning juvenile of 2004, ORATORIO (Group 1 Prix Jean Luc-Lagardere-Grand Criterium, Group 2 Galileo EBF Futurity Stakes, Group 3 Anglesey Stakes, 2 nd in Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes). This is the superb family of BARRERA (phenomenally fast winner of 9 races, set new track records at Hollywood Park and Aqueduct, including 6.00f in a blazing 1:07.2, sire), CODEX (6 wins, $534,576, incl. Preakness Stakes , Gr.1 , sire), EMINENCY (16 wins, $705,009, incl. Oaklawn Handicap, Gr.2 ; sire), GIVE ME STRENGTH (6 wins, $254,630, incl.
